STACK Infrastructure to Build 36MW Data Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois

STACK Infrastructure, a leading global developer and operator of data centers, has unveiled plans to build a new 36-megawatt (MW) data center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Backed by Riverbend Industries, the project will transform underutilized industrial land into a high-performance digital infrastructure hub, tailored to support AI, machine learning, and cloud computing workloads.

Strategically situated in one of the most competitive and capacity-constrained data center markets in the U.S., the development underscores STACK’s continued investment in high-demand regions. The two-story, 263,000-square-foot facility will feature a closed-loop water cooling system for efficient support of high-density workloads. Power will be supplied by a nearby ComEd substation, ensuring a reliable and scalable energy source.

Elk Grove Village, located just minutes from O’Hare International Airport, is a well-established industrial and technology corridor and already hosts STACK’s existing CHI01 facility. The new site’s proximity to existing infrastructure offers operational efficiencies and strengthens STACK’s position in the growing Chicago metro data center market.

“This project enhances one of our most important business corridors with innovative development and significant job prospects,” said Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson. “We anticipate that it will have long-term positive effects on our community and the broader tech ecosystem.”

Mike Casey, STACK’s Chief Technology Officer for the Americas, emphasized the strategic value of the development: “This new project in Elk Grove Village will provide much-needed capacity while repurposing existing industrial space into a high-value asset for the region.”

Hyperscale Expansion Across North America

The Elk Grove Village announcement comes as STACK accelerates its hyperscale data center development across North America. The company is currently advancing several major projects, including:

– A 500MW campus in South Dallas spanning 100 acres, offering both shell and turnkey deployment options.
– A 144MW expansion in Loudoun County, Virginia, a global hotspot for hyperscale data centers.
– A 56MW campus in Toronto, Canada, supported by robust power infrastructure and complementing STACK’s existing 8MW facility in the city.
– A 250MW campus in Central Phoenix featuring a dedicated on-site substation.
– A 200MW site near Portland, Oregon, with 24MW already online and an additional 96MW in the pipeline.
– A 48MW build-to-suit opportunity in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, offering customizable power and connectivity solutions for enterprise and hyperscale clients.

As demand for digital infrastructure continues to surge—fueled by data-intensive applications, artificial intelligence, and global cloud adoption—STACK’s new facility in Elk Grove Village reflects its ongoing commitment to delivering scalable, energy-efficient, and strategically located data center capacity.
