Veeam Replication between vSphere 5.x and vSphere 6 Compatibility

A customer wanted to know if it was possible to use Veeam Replication between 2 different versions of VMware vSphere. The version being vSphere 5.5 and vSphere 6.

The answer is yes as long as the Virtual Machine Hardware is running at the highest level or lower than the oldest vSphere version.

For example if you would like to replicate between vSphere 5.5 which has a Virtual Machine level of 10 and vSphere 6 which has a virtual machine level of 11, then virtual machine level 10 will be the highest you will be able to use between the 2 hosts. If you attempt to use Virtual Machine Hardware 11 on vSphere 6 and then try to replicate this virtual machine to a vSphere 5.5 environment, it will fail upon powering on.
