Arelion has unveiled SecureConnect, a built-in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation solution integrated into its Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and IP Transit offerings. The move reflects growing concerns over AI-driven cyberattacks targeting enterprise and wholesale networks, particularly in industries such as automotive, manufacturing and financial services, where supply chain disruption can have global ripple effects.
SecureConnect brings automated, edge-based defense directly into Arelion’s core connectivity infrastructure, combining Flowspec-based detection with a network of global scrubbing centers across Europe, the Americas and Asia. The service automatically identifies and neutralizes common volumetric DDoS threats, filtering malicious traffic at the network edge to minimize downtime and performance impact. Unlike traditional “blackhole” techniques that simply block all traffic to affected endpoints, Flowspec enables more surgical mitigation without adding deployment complexity or requiring additional hardware.
The launch underscores Arelion’s intent to deliver layered protection as enterprises grapple with the next generation of cyber risks – threats increasingly amplified by artificial intelligence. According to Arelion’s network data, the average volumetric attack size has surged by 97 percent between 2023 and 2024, evidence that attackers are harnessing greater computational power and bandwidth to intensify assaults. At the same time, AI is enabling smaller, high-frequency DDoS strikes that exploit automated vulnerabilities and challenge conventional defense mechanisms.
These evolving attack patterns are pushing organizations to seek turnkey security capabilities embedded within their connectivity services rather than relying on separate, siloed systems. For many, integrated protection such as SecureConnect also helps align with ISO compliance standards, enhancing both resilience and regulatory posture without major capital expenditure.
AI Reshaping the DDoS Battleground
Johan Ottosson, Arelion’s Vice President of Strategy and Product Management, said the introduction of SecureConnect reflects the company’s mission to simplify enterprise-grade defense in a complex threat landscape. “As AI reshapes the DDoS battleground, we remain committed to keeping our customers connected and protected while reducing implementation complexity,” said Mr. Ottosson. “SecureConnect helps businesses stem the onslaught of opportunistic attacks that have become common in today’s connectivity ecosystem.”
Scott Nichols, Arelion’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized that integrating security within its global connectivity fabric enhances reliability for multinational customers. “By bundling SecureConnect into our connectivity services, we give enterprises and wholesale partners a straightforward way to strengthen their defenses against AI-enabled cyberattacks,” said Mr. Nichols. “It reinforces the resilience of the network underlay that global economies depend on.”
With SecureConnect, Arelion positions itself as one of the few global carriers embedding automated, AI-aware DDoS mitigation at the network edge – an increasingly critical capability as the arms race between attackers and defenders accelerates across the digital economy.
