Nostrum Data Centers, the digital infrastructure arm of Nostrum Group, has engaged JLL to support the advancement of its AI-ready data center platform in Spain, a move that underscores the country’s growing ambitions to become a next-generation connectivity hub for Europe and beyond.
By tapping into JLL’s global data center advisory expertise, Nostrum aims to sharpen its customer engagement strategy while accelerating the commercial positioning of its large-scale, sustainability-focused developments.
The collaboration follows Nostrum Data Centers’ announcement in December 2025 that its initial portfolio of facilities will be available for customers in 2027, with power and land already secured across all planned sites. The company is currently developing 500 megawatts of IT capacity across Spain, all of which is fully secured, and has outlined an additional 300 megawatts for future expansion. The scale of the program places Nostrum among the more ambitious new entrants in the Southern European data center market, particularly as AI-driven workloads continue to drive demand for high-density, energy-efficient infrastructure.
Nostrum’s platform consists of six data center developments distributed across strategically selected locations in Spain. These sites have been chosen to take advantage of existing power availability, strong connectivity routes, and proximity to key digital infrastructure assets such as internet exchanges, points of presence, and subsea cable landings. According to the company, this geographic spread is intended to offer customers both redundancy and scalability, while reducing time-to-market for large AI and cloud deployments.
Data Center Sustainability
Sustainability is positioned as a central pillar of Nostrum’s strategy. Each facility is designed in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and targets a power usage effectiveness of 1.1. In addition, the developments are engineered to operate with a water usage effectiveness of zero, eliminating water consumption for cooling. As water scarcity and environmental impact become increasingly important considerations for hyperscalers and enterprise customers, such metrics are emerging as key differentiators in site selection.
Gabriel Nebreda, Chief Executive Officer of Nostrum Group, said the engagement with JLL supports the company’s long-term vision of combining rapid scalability with responsible development. He emphasized that Nostrum is focused on delivering speed-to-market across multiple Spanish locations while “leading a green revolution” in how digital infrastructure is built and operated.
From JLL’s perspective, Spain’s market fundamentals play a critical role in the partnership. Jason Bell, Senior Vice President of Data Center and Technology Services at JLL, highlighted Spain’s access to robust power infrastructure, strong connectivity, and comparatively low total cost of ownership as factors that position the country favorably against more saturated Northern European markets. He said JLL’s role will be to provide strategic guidance as Nostrum seeks to establish itself as a leading data center platform and elevate Spain’s profile in the global connectivity landscape.
With JLL’s support, Nostrum Data Centers is refining its approach to meeting the demands of artificial intelligence and other high-density workloads while maintaining stringent efficiency and sustainability standards. As AI continues to reshape data center requirements, the partnership reflects a broader industry shift toward combining scale, performance, and environmental responsibility in emerging regional hubs.
