RETN, an independent worldwide network services provider, has upgraded its Lithuanian network ring that connects Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys. By expanding high-capacity services throughout these cities, the upgrade is intended to improve regional connectivity within Lithuania while preserving Vilnius and Kaunas as crucial nodes on RETN’s international backbone that connects the Baltics with key European hubs.
In response to consumer demand and in collaboration with fiber supplier Skaidula, RETN installed 100G DWDM transponders along strategic regional routes, enhancing the Nx100G and Nx400G services already available in Vilnius and Kaunas. As demand increases, the upgraded segments, which now have 500G of installed capacity, are intended to rise to 1.2Tbps and higher.
In addition to offering direct routes to Latvian and Polish border points, the upgraded ring facilitates better access across the Baltic area and offers connections to Warsaw, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and other important sites.
Cloud Providers, International Carriers
Timur Pertenava, Commercial Director, Nordic & Baltic at RETN, stated, “RETN is dedicated to providing fast, secure, and future-proof connectivity to meet the demands of the region’s rapidly evolving IT sector as Lithuania continues to grow as a technology powerhouse. Our modernized infrastructure is built to meet the expanding demands of cloud providers, international carriers, and the flourishing local unicorn ecosystem.”
RETN is expanding its IP and DWDM backbone throughout the area as part of a larger strategic plan, to accommodate the increasing traffic levels from Lithuania’s IT and data hosting industries.
