A new report from IDC highlights a sharp rise in cloud adoption across the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan), with enterprises in banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), manufacturing, retail, and healthcare accelerating investments to meet regulatory, operational, and technological demands.
The study, titled Cloud Adoption Trends in Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) – Industry View, points to hybrid and private cloud strategies as increasingly popular approaches, as organizations look to manage data sovereignty, strengthen cybersecurity, and adopt more predictable cost models.
The report underlines the growing momentum of industry-specific cloud platforms, which offer pre-integrated, compliance-ready capabilities and sector-focused data models. These ‘industry clouds’ are gaining traction as they promise faster time to value and better alignment with regulatory frameworks.
Financial Services Clouds, Industrial Clouds
In healthcare, cloud platforms with embedded compliance tools, secure data exchange, and AI-assisted diagnostics are being adopted to improve patient outcomes while meeting strict privacy mandates, stated IDC.
BFSI institutions are deploying financial services clouds to enable real-time risk analytics, fraud detection, and localized reporting for regulatory compliance.
Manufacturers are turning to industrial clouds to integrate IoT, digital twins, and supply chain analytics, enabling greater efficiency and predictive maintenance. Meanwhile, retailers are leveraging cloud platforms to unify customer data, driving AI-powered personalization and omnichannel inventory management.
“Companies across the region are increasingly prioritizing cloud investments not just for infrastructure, but as a strategic driver of transformation, resilience, and growth,” said Shouvik Nag, senior research analyst at IDC Asia Pacific. He added that industry-specific solutions are reshaping how businesses approach cloud transformation, offering tailored stacks and compliance frameworks that support efficiency while meeting sector-specific demands.
The IDC findings suggest that in Asia-Pacific, cloud adoption is no longer a question of if, but how quickly and at what scale.
