Cirion, a key provider of digital infrastructure and connectivity solutions across Latin America, has appointed Nelson Fonseca and Santiago Londoño as Chief Executive Officers of its Data Center and Connectivity business units, respectively.
The leadership changes come as part of a broader organizational shift aimed at accelerating growth by giving each core division independent operational focus while continuing to leverage the company’s shared infrastructure and resources. Both Fonseca and Londoño will report directly to Cirion’s Board of Directors.
The announcement follows the resignation of Facundo Castro as CEO and his simultaneous appointment to the company’s Board. Castro, a long-serving executive with Cirion since 1998, held leadership roles across nearly all aspects of the business during his 25-year tenure. After becoming CEO in 2022, he oversaw the company’s transition away from Lumen Technologies, relaunching capital investment initiatives in both new data center development and regional fiber expansion. His departure from the executive team marks the end of a pivotal phase in Cirion’s post-separation trajectory.
“I am very proud of all that we’ve accomplished at Cirion during my time at the company and the positive impact we’ve made on our customers and communities throughout Latin America,” said Mr. Castro. “Cirion is poised well for continued growth and innovation, and I am excited to continue supporting Santiago and Nelson as they step into their new roles.”
The shift also reflects Cirion’s increasing emphasis on specialization in response to surging regional demand for enterprise-grade digital infrastructure and cloud connectivity. By decoupling operational leadership between its Data Center and Connectivity divisions, the company aims to streamline its strategic execution and product development while maintaining alignment with broader market opportunities.
Future-Ready Tech for Latin America
Nelson Fonseca and Santiago Londoño, both seasoned executives with deep roots in the telecommunications and data infrastructure sectors, are expected to guide the company through its next phase of expansion. Fonseca will oversee the Data Center business, focusing on high-growth areas such as hyperscale deployments and colocation services. Londoño, now heading the Connectivity business, will lead initiatives around high-capacity fiber infrastructure and regional service delivery.
Andrew Thomas, Senior Managing Director at Stonepeak and a Cirion board member, praised the transition, stating, “We are confident in Santiago and Nelson’s leadership as they take the helm of Cirion’s two core businesses given their extensive industry experience and the immediate impact they’ve both made at Cirion.”
In their joint statements, both executives emphasized collaboration and continuity as central themes in their upcoming tenure. Londoño described his appointment as a “tremendous honor” and expressed enthusiasm about building a “future-ready digital ecosystem for Latin America.” Fonseca echoed that sentiment, adding that Cirion is well-positioned to meet escalating demand for data center services and next-generation infrastructure across the region.
